Today has been a good day for Shay. Shay has been trying to talk, writing messages on paper, and giving out lots of hugs. Shay has been resting this evening. They have been turning down the vent periodically and Shay has responded well to this but they are still getting a lot of fluid off his lungs so they are not 100% certain that he will come off tomorrow. They are going to stop feeding him at 4:00 this morning just to be prepared in case he is able to come off.
On top of all the good news there is still some areas of concern. Shay's liver and kidneys are still not functioning. The doctors are still hopeful these could return after the vent comes off but they are also letting the family know the reality that this could be another signifigant hurdle we will have to jump in due time. Please continue to pray for the healing of Shay's liver and kidneys.
My wife made reference to a song today earlier in a post that I thought I would mention it here again. The lyrics have really hit home when we recollect on this experience and how so many people have had to completely rely on the Lord's strength not only for the healing of Shay's body but for comfort for of all those close to Shay during this difficult time. The lyrics read:
Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord
We will wait upon the Lord
We will wait upon the Lord
Our God, You reign forever
Our hope, our Strong Deliverer
You are the everlasting God
The everlasting God
You do not faint
You won't grow weary
Our God, You reign forever
Our hope, our Strong Deliverer
You are the everlasting God
The everlasting God
You do not faint
You won't grow weary
You're the defender of the weak
You comfort those in need
You lift us up on wings like eagles
listen to strength will rise

Hi Chris, It was so very good to hear your voice today. You sounded strong. I imagine that when Shay is doing better, you sound good and when he has a bad day, you do too. I can't begin to imagine what your family has been going through but know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers and we love you. I hope that Shay has a good day today. Love, Linda Everhart

What heartbreaking news! There is so little to say to comfort Shay and his family. Prayer is what we can offer. We will continue to ask for prayers for him and his family.
Through the power of the Holy Spirit, his will to live can make all the difference in the world. It is hard to imagine someone so young going through all of this.
Psalm 18:6 "In my distress I called to the Lord, I cried to my God for help."
Isaiah 41:10 "So do not fear, "for I am with you;" do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
May his family know this is so. God promised us, "I will be with you always."
With love and prayers,
Mama
Chris, this is from my mom. We are all praying for Shay, keep the faith.
