Keeping my fingers crossed as I write this but so far Shay has had a really good day. Actually a reall really good day. In the overnight hours they were able to get a lot of junk out of his lungs...enough to fill a pop bottle. The doctors reported that his lungs are operating 75% on their own. What this means is if..if....Shay can stay strong and keep trucking along the way he is they could try to take him off the vent by this weekend. Lets continue to pray for the healing of Shay's lung so that they can remove the vent (kinda of like extreme home makeover...instead of move that bus we can all start shouting move that vent!) The doctor said that they were not overly concerned with his irregular heartbeat and do not feel that a pacemaker will be needed at this time.
Now this is all wonderful news but we have to be patient because we have learned that the news can change in a moments notice. But as of 6:00 Tuesday evening the word is good.

Keep fighting the good fight! We are all praying for you - and your family. We just found a quote from Max Lucado that we all agreed reminded us of you. "One day I believe you'll hear the Lord say, 'I'm so proud that you let Me use you.'" We anxiously await seeing what He has planned for you! Ron, Stephanie, Hannah and Lydia Marsh
ReplyDeleteShay I'm so ready to get you off that vent, so you stay strong buddy. You keep on fighting and we all will keep on praying. I am so excited, I can not wait for you to talk back to us. You will probably be telling me to quit talking so much, but that is ok as long as you say it. I love you so much and can not wait to see you:) The girls say hi and they love you very very much! They are missing their Shayboy so much!

Hey wild man. Good job on filling up the pop bottle. Thanks to your uncle Chris, I will never look at a bottle of pop the same way. ha ha Okay, here is a bed time story for you...remember the names have been changed to protect the O'Neal's...I mean the innocent.
ReplyDeleteOnce upon a time there was this great little family living in the mid west. They loved to watch NCIS. One school night they were up until 10:00 (ooooooh) watching a great crime scene unfold on their big screen. The father, James, informed the children that since they were up a little late, he "best not" hear any whining in the morning as they rose for school. The three children, Abby, Jenny and Evan, shook their father hand good night and settled into bed.
Early the next morning, the children's loving mother, Michelle, gently woke them by saying, "This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad." Their wise father, James, chimed in, "Yeah, and I best not hear any whining this morning!"
The two teenage girls rolled out of bed and began the extremely laborious process of preparing themselves for the day. "Does this make me look fat?" "Should I wear my hair up or down?" "Where is my mascara?"
But where was the boy?
James realized his mini-me son had not yet emerged from the bedroom. The father began to more firmly inform Evan that it was time to get up. "Dad, I don't feel good," the young boy replied. Well, this father, although extremely merciful, was tough as nails. He had an extensive list of sayings revolving around the concept that pain is all in your head. The middle school boy reluctantly slithered out of bed and began his painfully short morning hygiene process.
As Evan left the weight room and headed to class, his father said, "Son, I love you. Don't be goin' to the nurse today. You're not sick. You're just tired. Have a good day."
Evan continued to feel poorly. The pain in his throat worsened as the day went on and he began to feel hot and clammy. After lunch, he finally broke down and visited the great Nurse Mandy. Mandy quickly called Michelle and informed her that Evan was running 102 degree temp and needed to be picked up from school.
James and Michelle were taken out of running for parents-of-the-year and their son was put on antibiotics for strep throat.
I'm glad your medical care is better than Ethan's....I mean Evans.
Love you.
Ahh, "Michelle", I've missed your stories, although this one isn't quite as "funny" (poor little "Even" - hope he is feeling better soon!), I think that we can relate to it quite well.
ReplyDeleteMiss you guys,
Christy & Danny
