I know many of you are probably anxious to hear about how Shay's day has been but before I can do that I have to tell you a little bit about the students at Fair Grove.
Overwhelmed is what we are filling right now. The students at Fair Grove have now raised over $2000 to help support Shay's family during this very difficult time. Most recently the student body had a "hats for Shay day". The students raised over $900 on Friday. Tonight a friend of the family made the trip from Fair Grove to Oklahoma City. When they arrived in the hsopital room they had with them bundles and bundles of cards and banners for Shay from the students. On a nightly basis students are leaving messages that touch the heart of Shay's family and will touch the heart of Shay when he comes out of the medically induced coma.
As we have stated before Shay is new to the district. I am also in my first year with the district. In my position you really don't have the oppurtunity to build relationships with kids. In fact the assistant principal is often the guy students love to hate. Regardless of this the students at Fair Grove have demonstrated the type of character they possess. They have chosen to reach out and help a fellow student and family in need. I can't help but also brag on the parents of these students because the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. You have instilled compasion in the hearts of your kids.
There are not enough words that I can say to express how grateful I am to you. You make me proud to be a Fair Grove Eagle and my prayer is that all of you who have contributed in some way will be blessed. As some of you may know Shay's dad lost his job the day before this started. The funds that you have raised will allow his dad to be with him during this difficult time and still be able to pay the bills this month as well as help with the expenses incurred while staying at the hospital. Students please know how much I appreciate what you have done. You are simply the best.
Okay now the update on Shay. Shay took tremdous strides today. The doctors and nurses are very surprised by his progress. Shay became completely indpendent of the bypass machine and now has his chest closed. His blood pressure is also very good. Shay is very stable right now. Our biggest concern at this point is now his lungs. We are asking that you now specifically pray for Shay's lungs to heal. Shay has other organs that are in distress but we are confident that these will continue to improve as his heart grows stronger. I get the feeling from the nurses that they are amazed at where Shay is at. Just to give you an idea of how bad of shape he was in the hospital was becoming concerned about the amount of blood he was going through. Shay was literally breaking the blood bank and the hospital was worried about keeping up.
As you continue to pray for Shay I would ask that you also remember Pearl Hollan. Pearl is the daughter of a coworker of mine and they have discovered cancer in her kidneys. Please pray for this family during such a difficulult time.

ReplyDeleteGreat day for Shay and we can only pray that with each and every day he will continue to marvel the nurses.
Lord I pray for Shays lungs to be healed and your healing power to touch all of the infected organs. Amen

It's so amazing how great students, staff, and families in Fair Grove can come together to help others! We are very lucky to have you, Shay and family, to move into our school district! We're lucky to have a great kid walking our halls with his brilliant smile, and a great vice-principal to push us to wear our laynards(: Keep fighting Shay, everyone is so proud of you! Rest up, you have a long ways to go(: Can't wait to see you back at school, and officially meet you!
ReplyDeleteLove, Mariah!
Shay, It's late (or early) so I will make my bed time story short.
ReplyDeleteOnce upon a time there was a family that went to visit their friend in the hospital. On the way back from their visit, at 1:13 AM, they got pulled over by the Oklahoma highway patrol. The children quickly awoke to the bright, flashing lights, afraid their mother was headed off to jail. The husband, who began to grumble as he came to, could only wish his wife was headed to jail. The officer informed her the head light was out and the lady was asked to come back to the police car. She began a sob story that went something like this..."I'm so sorry. We are barrowing my parents van because ours is broken down. We've been to the University hospital to visit our friend. He just had this major crazy heart surgery. You see, he is a member of my husband's football team. My husband coaches in Fair Grove, Missouri. Do you know where that is?" The woman, of course, gave this explination in one breath. Before the lady knew it, she had rambled on long enough that the officer said, "Maam, I'll just give you a warning. I hope your friend gets well soon. Please be careful on your way home."
The moral of this story is (as your Aunt Kelly and I already know)sometimes rambling on and on and on and on actually benefits you.
I love you, buddy. Sleep well.
I hope the OVER-SIZED orgami football made it up there in one piece! The kids tested it in class and it really works (with two pretty brave students forming a goal). See what happens in the art room with MR. STALLINGS out of town?! We miss you all and look forward to your return. It is exciting to hear all of this good news. Prayers that Shay's recovery continues to run smoothly and steadily. I will have my prayers focus on lung function today right along with you guys. Have a good day! Mrs. Pierson
ReplyDeleteI just want to start off by saying how truly blessed Shay and his family are right now to have such a wonderful community behind them.It was truly one of the saddest times when I found out Shay and his family were moving from Florida to Missouri! We are so very blessed to have them in our lives. Over the 6 years that I have known them they have had many ups and downs. Going from Zayne being born 10 weeks permature and enduring the very long 6 weeks he was in the NICU, to Shay having heart surgery this summer. I was blessed to be a part of those roller coasters. It kills me that i am unable to be there for my best friend in enduring yet another roller coaster. I personally want to thank Chris for being the wonderful uncle that he is in making it a little better for us here in Florida to at least keep us posted on how Shay is doing. Chris words cannot express how thankful I am for what you are doing you are a blessing from above! Shay and his family are more than just our best friends, they are part of our family!I remember when Danny first saw my husband and did "not want his son playing baseball for that arrogant long haired hippy" Well needless to say my husband drafted Shay for his baseball team and Danny and my husband became what Todd calls "best friends." I am thankful for that moment and from that I got the best friend a woman could ever ask for!!!The 6 years we spent together are priceless, holidays, birthdays and just about every Saturday night either playing cards going to Karoke or just hanging out! Over those years i watched Shay go from a boy to a young man, and what a wonderful young man he turned out to be. I know Shay will win this battle. To Danny, Christy, Shay and Zayne my thoughts and prayers are with you every second of everyday!!!!! Shay you are truly my HERO!!!!! I love you guys with all my heart! Stay strong and FIGHT!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove always,
Tina & Family
Know that you are constantly in our thoughts and prayers. EVERYONE is watching the blog closely (thank you, Chris) and it's really helping those of us back here. It's wonderful to see a great posting like this one. We are pulling for you as a community-it goes beyond the school walls! Know that we are rooting for you and caring for your entire family. Shay, we are ready to see you back in school! Really, Lord of the Flies isn't THAT bad! Take care and stay strong!
