Lots to Report

Chest X-ray looked good today but Shay has developed pneumonia in one of his lungs. His white blood cell count was down today from yesterday so they think his pneumonia is getting better. The rash on Shay’s body is now mainly just on his legs. When the dialysis machine runs out tomorrow they are going to see if his kidneys will work on their own. They are also putting a new experimental medicine in his fluids that they are hoping will attach to the bilirueben in his liver and pull it out. This drug has mainly been used on people awaiting a liver transplant but it has only been used on people whose bilireuben levels are in the fifties. Shay’s is currently in the thirties. It has been very effective when used with people in the fifties to bring theirs down but typically it is not used under these conditions. They also stopped his benadryl and lowered his methadone so they are expecting him to be a lot more alert. They are going to go ahead and do a liver biopsy. To prepare him for this they are giving him plasma to help prevent bleeding issues that may arise. They are putting a new catheter in his stomach for a new dialysis machine. They are also going to put a trach in his throat to get the tube from the vent out of his mouth. All three of these procedures will be performed at the same time but we are not for sure when they are going to do this. They have to make sure his blood is clotting at the level they need to. The best guess is Wednesday or Thursday.

Shay was in very good spirits today. Mom always asks Shay “do you know how much I love you” and Shay responded with several head nods. The other highlight of the day was when Shay pushed his dad out of the way so that he could watch the basketball game on TV. I heard a great comment today that I wanted to pass on as well. During an admin meeting today my boss said that he heard a very fitting comment at church on Sunday. The comment went something like this “God sometimes waits for the impossible to show his mighty work.” That is good stuff.

I also wanted to pass on that Friday will be Shay’s 17th birthday. If you live in the Fair Grove area we will be leaving on Friday afternoon for Oklahoma if you would like to send cards. The other option is to mail them to the address below. I do believe that in some ways this is going to be one of Shay’s best birthdays ever.

Send Shay’s mom, my life verse, Matthew 18:19 and tell her I stand in agreement with her for no more coughing and for the liver specialist to know what is going on and that the biopsy will NOT be necessary, We will praise God when all is figured out and Shay is improving. I pray for rest, strength and peace of mind for them both. May God draw near to them and let them feel His comfort!

I received this message of encouragement from my friend Kristen who is a cancer survivor. She knows first hand of what she is speaking about.

  4. Shay,
It snowed here today... not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Lydia says good thing, Hannah says gross. The school is buzzing with activity of getting ready for your hat day. There were girls sitting out in the hallway for hours making a bulletin board for you. Sounds like you have a few big days ahead of you. Keep fighting stong. Constantly praying for you. Love you lots.

  5. Shayboy!!!
Miss me?!? Mewhahaha… just kidding. The evil laugh is a lot greater in person... It is kind of a let down whenever you see it on the screen. So if you could just take a second and imagine me doing it. Feel free to do it yourself along with me.
And anyways... Oh how i've missed you! The basketball teams had their first games monday night. The girl's game was at 6 so i went to that one and then hurried over to strafford so that i could watch Jerrod play. Both teams won! And Jerrod dunked it... silly boy! ;p do you think we could fit a basketball net in your room?... ooooh. that would be really cool. the funny part is whenever Jerrod tries to tell you about it.. "Oh it was rolling down my arm and i didn't think i was going to make it" but really he slammed it down right in this guys face.. HA! that is what that guy gets for getting in the way! hmmmmhm...
Oh and by chance do you know how much oxygen a goat needs? better yet 3 goats? and a couple chickens? You can get back to me on those.
Anyways... both teams play again tomorrow because they are playing in tournaments. So i’ll keep you posted on those. When we get to your joint i’m going to sing to you in Spanish so you better be ready. la La LA La la la…… oh wait Spanish… umm…. Si, si, si, si, si, yo.
Oh hey do you know how many solar panels it would take to heat a place on the moon?
While we are on the subject of questions, in you opinion do you think it would be better to take goats, chickens, or cows to the moon? And do you know how to store solar energy?
Ha! That’s what you’re missing in biology... a big giant moon project…
Oh yeah! We got some snow today! I can’t wait to beam you in the face with a snow ball. We are going to have so much fun! We can team up again your dad and “Mr. Coach Stallings Chris Lanyard Nazi Sir.” That’s right I’m coming for you Danny! PAY BACK! And I’ll come for you too “Mr. Coach Stallings Chris Lanyard Nazi Sir” if you don’t keep that little office visit I had on the DL… just kidding. I’m a good girl, I only go and see the head principal and not the side-kick… I mean assistant principal. C: he he “Mr. Coach Stallings Chris Lanyard Nazi Sir” aren’t I funny… well maybe I should go for the night before I say anything else :| my father might disapprove of.. :p off to bed!
We sure are missing you Shayboy! So you better keep fighting hard and get better! I still pray for you all the time and am thinking about you! So don’t you ever think the people back here in ol’ Fair Grove have forgotten about you! I’ll talk to you soon Shay! We love you. Sweet dreams of me! I only give permission for people to dream about me that I really like and usually there’s a fee but the first ones on the house… (: Night.
